Georgia Tech Football Spring --2025- the Quarterbacks

Georgia Tech QB Graham Knowles talks with press

There's much that's unknown about any college football team five months prior to the first .game. That certainly includes Georgia Tech.

But to the extent that expectations eventually become actual deeds, the quarterback position looks strong for Tech in 2025.

The coaching staff believes their QB room is among the deepest in the country.

That assessment was repeated again last week by Chris Weinke, QB coach and co- offensive coordinator for the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech QB Coach Chris Weinke, co- offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

And who's to argue? Haynes King returns this season for his final year, bringing with him the savvy he has gained by starting for Tech the last two years. King has brought productivity and efficiency into his final year. He has also won the respect of opposing coaches throughout the ACC, and beyond. Kirby Smart , among many others, saluted King's toughness following Georgia's narrow win over Tech last fall.

Aaron Philo returns for his year two, having garnered significant playing time after King was hurt and after Zack Pyron had played with only sporadic success. Philo stepped into some difficult situations, providing stellar play in wins over NC State and Miami.

Graham Knowles is third in succession as of this spring. The 6'7" Texan did not see the field last year, but he has learned much and stays on the ready should an opportunity present itself.

Speaking on Weinke's coaching style, Knowles said,

" There is certainly not a lot of tender love from Coach Weinke, but you know he's a little tough on us, but that makes us tougher."

Knowles went on to say," I'm used to it, my grandpa used to be tough on me growing up."

Weinke's teaching style is"..a stern leadership role," said Knowles, and he believes it's a style that's effective for the Tech QB group.

As for his take on things, Weinke spoke about the big picture, saying, " Anybody who comes into this place ( Georgia Tech) is coming into a great environment. "

Regarding Haynes King, Weinke said " when that kid runs out of the tunnel to play football, he gives 100%."

When asked about the possibility of influencing King's play in an attempt to mitigate the injury risk by running less often, Weinke demurred.

"He ( King) is the son of a hard-nosed coach and thst was instilled in him at a very young age."

Given that perspective, it is an accepted risk that King will run as frequently as the defenses and the game situations allow.

And unlike the preseason of 2024, Tech staff and fans now know that the Jackets have capable backups waiting in the wings should the need arise.
