Tech Falls Short vs Miami of Ohio in Opener
Georgia Tech fell to visiting Miami of Ohio Tuesday night at McCamish Pavilion in the 2021-2 season opener for both teams.
Tech held a lead with just over 2 minutes to go, but missed the final six shots while the visiting Redhawks scored the last nine points to grab the win. Mike Devoe led Georgia Tech with 26 points. Jordan Usher added 12.
For Miami, Mekhi Lairy was the leading scorer with 23, including a nifty hoop with 12 seconds left to take the lead for good.
Miami’s Coach Owens lauded his team for “sticking with the plan” in gaining their first win over a power 5 school.
For Tech, it was another stumble start, featuring much streakiness in the unexpected loss. As a team, Tech shot 4 of 17 from three point range. But all four of the makes were from Devoe, who hit 4 of 6. His teammates wete a collective 0 for 11 from three point land.
Tech will host Stetson on Friday Nov 12 in game #2 of the new season.
