Georgia Tech Baseball Adds Danny Borrell as Pitching Coach

Georgia Tech Baseball Head Coach Danny Hall introduced his new pitching coach to the press Tuesday . Danny Borrell has agreed to join the Jackets’ staff . Borrell has been the minor league pitching coordinator for the New York Yankees over the past 4 plus years. Prior to that, he was pitching coach in the Yankees system after finishing his playing career in 2008.

Borrell played his collegiate ball at Wake Forest. His pro career lasted 9 years, including 6 years with the Yankees, who drafted him in 2000 in the 2nd round.

He finished up in the Oakland organization before rejoining the Yankees as a minor league pitching coach.

Borrell said he’d gotten offers before but “..something about the Tech offer stood out.”He had not known Tech Coach Danny Hall personally prior to their recent contact, but Borrell said everyone he had talked with spoke extremely highly of Hall and the Tech opportunity.

Of his coaching philosophy, Borrell said he’s “looking for dynamic arms that produce velocity” and can be successful. “Each pitcher will have an individual plan” he said. He is aware that Tech has some “good arms” coming back, and he’s looking forward to establishing good communication with each of them. “I can still learn ,” he said .

Coach Borrell is married and has a 13 year-old son who is , he said, into basketball. Borrell and his wife are looking forward to establishing some local roots and having far less travel in his work than has been the norm with the Yankees.
