Coach Collins And Staff Announce Who Is "Above The Line" For Georgia Tech Football.

Coach Geoff Collins announced his group of football players termed “above the line” on Sunday in preparation for Thursday’s game.

Collins eschews the traditional “2-deep” roster that many programs embrace. He prefers instead to have players be judged as “ready to contribute” in the game at hand, without a stricter grouping as to 1st string , 2nd string and the like.

That being said, Collins made several points regarding the A-T-L list for Tech’s first game August 29 at Clemson. He pointed out that the list includes only 11 seniors (noting that senior Jahaziel Lee is listed as both Offensive line and Defensive tackle owing to his versatility). Collins noted that only 2 other Division 1 programs in the country have so few seniors. He also went on to pay his deep gratitude for this year’s seniors, pointing out that they had bought in to his new system and had worked very hard on the transition they are making. And he did not expound on competition leaders for playing time among his 3 listed quarterbacks, nor for his 2 placekickers on the list.

The A-T-L list totals 68 names, and definitely skews young, including 12 “true” freshmen and 11 redshirt freshmen and 20 sophomores.
