Have yourself a day, A.J. Gray!

Georgia Tech Safety A.J. Gray had a day to remember in Saturday’s win over North Carolina. Gray had two interceptions, both in the 3rd quarter. The first of these came immediately after Tech had lost a fumble at midfield, giving the Tar Heels a chance to bite into Tech’s 10-0 lead. Instead, on the first play after Gray’s interception, KirVonte Benson scored on a 63 yard run, extending that lead to 17-0.

In addition, Gray had four solo tackles, two of them in the open field.

Coach Paul Johnson praised his safety, saying “it was good to see A.J. play well, he has lots of ability.”

Gray himself noted that his growing experience is allowing him to see the field better and read the quarterback’s intentions. In turn, he can anticipate the throw a little more quickly to make a play on the ball. The Tech defense will face a stiffer challenge when they travel to #13 Miami on October 14.
