Benson the new B back, no longer a newbie
Georgia Tech’s prolific offense unveiled a new B back for the 2017 opener Monday night. Having lost last year’s starter Dedrick Mills unexpectedly 2 weeks ago, some Tech fans were uneasy about the new man assuming the role. Kirvonte Benson had never had a carry in his college career.
Well, Tech fans, fear no more. Among the several bright spots from Tech’s overtime loss was Benson’s stalwart performance at B back. He had 26 carries for 125 yards on the night, including a one yard touchdown plunge in the 2nd quarter.
Benson played like a seasoned veteran, picking up key yards and making effective blocks. In so doing, he earned praise from Coach Johnson, who cited his strong play. It’s still early, but Georgia Tech’s B-back position in 2017 looks to be in good hands with Benson.
