Georgia Tech football: 8/12 post-scrimmage presser with Coach Johnson

Georgia Tech Coach Paul Johnson praised his freshman running back Jerry Howard following Saturday morning practice at Tech’s annual fan day open house at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

“Jerry Howard ran hard today. He’s a load to bring down”, said Johnson. When asked if Howard might see some playing time this year, Johnson added “Oh yeah, he’s tailor-made for what we do here. He runs with his pads low.”

In other remarks, Johnson noted that he is not ready to name his starting quarterback, and may not name him until just before game time in a few weeks. He also said he could foresee some freshmen making the two-deep roster on the defensive side of the ball.

For his big picture assessment, Coach Johnson said: “Next week at practice it will still be about us, and by the end of the week, it will be about Tennessee.”.

Tech opens the 2017 season against SEC foe Tennessee on Labor Day, Sept. 4 in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a nationally televised game. Tech was 3-0 against SEC opponents in 2016.
