Down goes Dansby, crash goes Camargo, up comes Dansby

Dansby Swanson was demoted to AAA Gwinnett several weeks ago, to get everyday playing time, after he had lost his starting role at shortstop on the parent club to Johan Camargo. Swanson got 9 hits in his 38 at bats at Gwinnett (.237), with one homer and 5 RBI.

His return to Atlanta was expedited by Camargo’s bizarre knee injury, suffered as he was taking the field to start the game scheduled for August 9. Swanson was pulled from the Gwinnett lineup that night and was back with The Big Braves the next day. So far, his production has been similar to earlier in the season, meaning 5 hits in 23 at bats, with no power and slightly spotty fielding. He had a better last night in Denver, with 2 hits and a stellar defensive play.

Did the Braves misplay the budding career if their young shortstop by marketing him so heavily entering 2017 after a productive, but brief stint in the majors late last season? Only time will tell.
